About

Rabbit is a new quarterly journal for non-fiction poetry. Though based in Melbourne, Australia, the journal has enjoyed a short (but proud) tradition of publishing both local and international poets. Rabbit publishes all things poetry – poems, reviews, essays on poetry or poetics, interviews with poets – with an emphasis on new and emerging rabbits (poets). Some of the contributors to the journal include Michael Brennan, Stuart Cooke, Johanna Drucker, Kenneth Goldsmith, Duncan Hose, Michael Farrell, Jill Jones, Patrick Jones, Eileen Myles, Pete Spence, Ann Vickory, Lesley Wheeler and PiO. Copies of current or previous issues of Rabbit are available under the ‘(s)HOP’ panel or at the retailers listed under the ‘distributors’ panel.

  1. Dear Friends,

I should like to submit a poem/verse to your worthy site sometime. Based In Melbourne your magazine should be good. Please, could you tell me , when you decide to move to non-fiction, will you have themes ?
    Best wishes for success.
My Canadian poet friend Louisa led me to your site. Vivienne Bibby

  2. O bunnies,

How exactly is non-fiction poetry defined for the purposes of your venture? Must a submission be narrative poetry to be non-fiction poetry? Does it suggest confessionalism? If I write a piece encapsulating my response to a real experience but not actually describing it, does that still count? I am utterly in the dark and seek illumination!

    Many thanks,
    Sarah

    • Hi Sarah -
You are free to interpret ‘non-fiction poetry’ at will — if you take a look at our 3rd issue, you will see that our conception of non-fiction poetry is very broad, from lyric musings to philosophical contemplation, narrative poems to visual/poetic diagrams. We look for ideas grounded in the real, but beyond that, we are excited by a poet’s interpretation/translation of that reality onto the page. Like the bunnies, let your imagination run wild!
