The Butter Lady by Maureen Gibbons

The Butter Lady is a ‘silhouette verse biography’ of the life and demise of a homeless woman, whose body was found in a Perth park in 2001. Captivating and affecting, The Butter Lady imagines the kind of life this woman may have lived, offering not only a blurred elegy, but also a quietly lyrical rendering of the Perth landscape in which Gibbons herself resides.

Maureen Gibbons has been published in Hecate, Poetrix, Spinybabbler and Blue Dog Australian Poetry and has previously tutored in poetry.
